"Come to Saratoga, you'll love it" were the words of my boyfriend Matt's parents and their friends year after year after year, but we weren't convinced. I can't remember what our exact turning point was, maybe it was so they'd stop pestering us but we finally agreed to go for a weekend and WOW, if we only knew what we had been missing. Thank you Ralph, Nella, Anne and Les. Our little three day weekend trip six years ago has turned into spending over three weeks during the summers, with a trip back in the winter, just because we've missed it. This is our kind of town.
Saratoga Springs is located in New York, just North of Albany. The name reflects the presence of the mineral springs which originally drew tourists to the resort area over 200 years ago. These days the city is perhaps best known for the Saratoga Race Course which opened on August 3, 1963. Racing at the track is held for seven weeks beginning mid July and while the city is amazing all the time, it is during these seven weeks that everything is even more alive. Along with racing season comes live music on every street corner, vibrant shops, exquisite restaurants and dynamic nightlife. Words cannot even begin to describe how incredible this place is. In just a few weeks from now we will once again be leaving for our home away from home.
